Kia ora,
Initially I worked both in outdoor recreation & environmental education. In 1992,I completed a MS Ed in Recreation Management. For past 15 years I worked as a recreation therapist & manager in physical rehab hospital and within government councils. I taught at tertiary level for past 5 1/2 years in New Zealand in recreation therapy & leisure studies. Now I feel as I have come full circle - since March 2007 I have been working as a Community Development Planner. My skills in human geography have always given me the big picture in various places I have worked and some common ground with my clients. Now, I am once again working with demographic data, GIS, and on the ground community consultations. My main portfolio is recreation planning, but I also work with crime prevention, aging and disability. Its interesting seeing how my education and experience support me in my new role and what new skills and cultural nuances I will need to learn.
