Diana Restrepo-Osorio, PhD student, has received a Winter Break Tinker Award from the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies to visit Paraguay. According to Diana, "This will be an exploratory trip to Paraguay to carry out observations and informal interviews regarding the practices associated with sustainable cattle ranching. I am also visiting the central region of Colombia, with my own funding, to explore the same topic utilizing the same methodology.
With this I would like to determine how the practices associated with cattle ranching in each of the countries compare to the practices that we utilize here in the Midwest. I am also curious about possible cultural differences in the meaning attached to the term "sustainable cattle ranching"."
