Drones and Donuts was a success
The KU Department of Geography and Atmospheric Science celebrated its inaugural "Donuts and Drones Day" on Saturday, October 5th. Aside from being really fun to fly, drones have a wide range of applications for field geographers, from assessing urban development sites to monitoring illegal tropical deforestation to tracking endangered species, and much more. Participating KU Geography students learned the FAA guidelines of drone usage, completed The Recreational Unmanned Aircraft Safety Test (TRUST), and took to the skies over Jayhawk Blvd, capturing photos and video of campus from a bird's-eye perspective.
