Biography —
Courtney King is a citizen of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma who lives and works at the confluence of the Wakarusa and Kansas River Valleys in present-day Lawrence, Kansas; the homelands of many Tribes, including the Kansa (Kaw), Osage, Wichita, and Pawnee Peoples. Her work intertwines Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Western science while fostering community, (re)connecting people with native plant species, and restoring ecosystems of present-day Kansas. Courtney aims to research the effects of Good Fire on native plant species in the woodlands, wetlands, and prairies of Kansas.
